Patricia Urquiola's astonishing Marbleous Garden on show in Hall 7B during Marmomacc
The enchanted garden in marble by the Spanish designer and the marvellous, elegant execution of its elements

Visitors will certainly feel like Alice in wonderland on entering show area 7B at Mamomacc, scheduled next 30 September-3 October, and approaching the Marbleous Garden, an enchanted garden with decidedly oversize dimensions conceived and implemented by designer Patricia Urquiola. The installation - completely in marble, onyx and stone - occupies an area of 6 x 6.5 metres and has a maximum height of 2.10 metres. The composition is a combination of vases with various decorations - and gigantic dimensions - upside-down cups and bowls “served” on an embroidered tray in Carrara marble. All these elements were made thanks to the use of very modern numerical control machines and are embellished by decorations that in many cases turn into elegant fretwork. The entire installation is valorised by appropriate external and internal lighting of the single elements and enlivened by vegetal inserts.
Developed by the Spanish-born designer by now an adopted Italian, Patricia Urquiola, the work was developed thanks to collaboration of four leading companies in the marble sector.
Budri specialises in inlays and stone mosaics and produced the tray in Carrara marble that houses the collection; Grassi Pietre handled the geometric "grilliage" structure in stone, Marsotto looked after the four upside-down cups in onyx that turn into seats. Lastly, Testi Fratelli produced the basin and the large vase for the installation.
The work will later be on show in Paris 2-7 November on the occasion of Batimat, the International Construction Exhibition.
